Do You Have a New Year’s Resolution for 2023?

We are just days from drawing the curtains on the year 2022. For many of us, it is a time of closure while we invite renewal into our lives. We see January first as the day of opportunity, a clean slate, and a fresh start.

Do you have goals for the year ahead? Maybe you are one of many people hoping to drop some weight and become healthier next year. Perhaps you are on a quest to discover love for yourself or awaken your divine spiritual energy. Or maybe you want to pursue a new career path.

Whatever the case, I’d like to let you in on a little secret. Those goals and dreams you have for yourself and your life, do NOT need a day like January first to ignite them into existence. You have 365 days a year that hold possibilities in manifesting your dreams. So why is it that we all wait till the beginning of the new year to discover productive motivation?

Unfortunately, the same reason rests within why people wait for the weekend or find themselves lacking self-discipline. It all circulates the toxic mindset of creating excuses for why we aren’t where we want to be.

Our minds have a very manipulative way of being overly protective of our egos. Taking accountability for anything negative in our lives is extremely hard for our subconscious to process which is why it utilizes excuses to cushion the fact that we haven’t accomplished what we hoped we would.

Most of the time we don’t even catch ourselves making up an excuse because they come off in the form of taking on “crucial” responsibility.

We know the obvious ones like:

“I don’t have time”

“My genetics are to blame”

“I can’t”

“I have children”

“I don’t have the money”

These are all common excuses we use to convince ourselves why we CAN’T do something, and in our minds, it makes it “OKAY.”

However, how about excuses that sounds like this:

“I am just too busy that I don’t have time to meal prep. I have to eat out a lot since I’m always on the go doing my job for others.”

“I don’t have the money it costs to pursue my dream and even if I did, there are just too many people who are better at it than me.”

“I have a medical condition that disallows me to do anything active. I’m just in too much pain.”

“After children, everything changes. I just can’t do what I use to. It all goes to them”

“I’m doing everything I can. This is me doing my absolute best.”

“I can’t lose weight no matter how healthy I eat. It’s like my body holds on to fat no matter what I do or how hard I try.”

These types of excuses are more than just words. These types of excuses attach an emotion to them. Seeing that our subconscious is constantly trying to protect our ego, creating a scenario that can create pity, only further justifies our negative actions and habits. Which causes us to continue utilizing them and in return, keeps us stuck.

The limited magic that surrounds the end of each year seems to shed a dim light on our short comings. It’s almost as if we are forced to reflect on the year we had and pinpoint the areas we probably lacked in. For whatever reason, this is the one moment a year we take SOME accountability.

Hence, the creation of the NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION!

Giving something a positive title along with a sense of a fresh beginning miraculously does something to the human psyche. January first ultimately dismantles every excuse we’ve ever told ourselves and lights a blazing fire under our asses!

Sadly, that flame only lasts a few weeks to a month before it slowly starts to go out again. Why? Because excuses creep their way back into our lives the moment life throws us obstacles or roadblocks.

My best advice to you this year? Instead of setting the same goal, you have set year after year, make your goal to rid yourself of excuses. Begin to take accountability for your life. And when life goes unplanned or throws you off course vow to yourself that NOTHING will stop you this time around.

The best way to catch yourself in an excuse is to reflect the moment you do something going AGAINST your goals. Stop letting your feelings control your life. Disallow your mind to negatively impact you. Instead, make this year’s New Year’s Resolution not to give in to your subconscious’s pity party when it comes to tackling your goals in 2023.

Everyone always says, “new year, new me.” But the world doesn’t need a new you, because YOU are beautiful just the way you are. This year let’s begin a new trend, “#NewYearNewMind.”

I hope everyone closes out this year on a positive note. Remember dwelling on the past does nothing for your future. So, make peace with what’s already happened, and head into 2023 with an entirely new outlook on the possibilities for your life! You hold the power! You always have. It all begins and ends with your mindset.
